A spring asphalt‑crack maintenance project was carried out on the Hof‑Bayreuth section (KM128‑KM134) of Highway A93 in Bavaria, Germany. This mountainous motorway includes multiple work zones far from public power grids, where mains electricity supply was unavailable on‑site. A local road‑maintenance contractor deployed the gasoline‑powered FND‑XC100 road industrial vacuum cleaner to remove debris and dust after crack cutting with road groove cutters.
During site operation, driven by the Honda GX390 gasoline engine, the machine worked continuously throughout full shifts without external power supply. Stable negative‑pressure suction of 300 mbar thoroughly extracted asphalt fragments, grit and fine dust from crack grooves. The built‑in air back‑blow cleaning device together with washable FPPR filter cartridges extended filter service life and greatly reduced consumable procurement costs on‑site. The 100‑litre detachable stainless‑steel dust tank enabled easy waste dumping, and the rear storage rack kept suction nozzles and 5‑metre suction hose well organized.
Compared with traditional high‑pressure air blowing, the FND‑XC100 eliminated fugitive dust emissions, complying with strict German construction‑site environmental regulations and protecting workers’ respiratory health. The integrated workflow of grooving and vacuum cleaning cut working hours by approximately 22 percent per kilometre of cracks. Upon project completion, the contractor placed a follow‑up order for three additional FND‑XC100 units for routine pavement maintenance across federal and state highways in Bavaria.
